We had both been on the other end of an unanswered call — ringing a clinic after hours, getting voicemail, hanging up and trying the next name on the list. It is a small frustration when it happens to you. It stops being small when you realise how routine it is, and that most clinics have simply accepted it as the cost of doing business.

What kept us on the problem was the other side of the desk. Reception is the hardest job in the building — the phone, the calendar, the reminders, the same five questions answered for the hundredth time — and none of it is why anyone joined a clinic. The patients who never call back are only half the cost. The other half is paid by the people still picking up.

We are building it here because Singapore is the hardest place to get this right. The bar for data protection and clinical trust is set high, and reception built to satisfy the PDPA and MOH guidance is reception built properly.
